Official Google Voice iPhone app approved, headed to App Store soon
If you're an iPhone user and aren't a big fan of the Google Voice mobile web interface, you won't have long to wait for an official app.TechCrunch is reporting that the app has already been approved and it's only a matter of time before it goes live in the App Store. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for it and will update this post once Google Voice becomes available.
There's really no reason Apple wouldn't approve Google's app at this point. They did, after all, recently approve two third-party GV apps.

So, you go to a new website, and you want to leave a comment. Maybe you want to open an account, but just to check the service out. Of course, they want your email, ... but should you give them your real email? Perhaps you should head over to Mailinator and take a moment to create a temporary inbox.
On the one hand, going to Mailinator will take you a moment, and you might want that inbox in the future. On the other hand, you don't know the site all that well, and perhaps giving them your real email address isn't such a great idea. Decisions, decisions!
Less Spam, please is a Firefox add-on that strives to make this decision far easier to make. Instead of going to an external site, you just right-click any text field and choose Insert a temporary mail address for this site. The text field immediately gets a valid, working email address in one of three services (YopMail, Humaility, or Mailinator). You can fill in the form, and then right-click again and choose Open the temporary mailbox for this site to go to the selected provider and check your email. It's simple, slick, and elegant!
Now, where's the Chrome add-on for this?

evercookie: the one cookie that you... just... can't... DELETE!
Limping and dripping from the maws of incorrigible security bod Samy Kamkar comes evercookie. As the name suggests, deleting an evercookie isn't easy -- in fact, once you've taken a nibble, that's it: you can't delete it.Of course, no benevolent person would ever use evercookie -- you'd have to be a nefarious money-grabbing megalomaniac! -- but the sheer number of clever hacks, cheap tricks and snarky ingenuity employed to make evercookies invulnerable makes this project very interesting indeed. All told, evercookie uses eight different storage locations for its cookie, ranging from HTTP and Flash cookies through to HTML5's new storage methods and 'RGB values of auto-generated, force-cached PNGs using HTML5 Canvas tag to read pixels (cookies) back out' (really!).
If the cookie can be found in any one of those locations, it can be rebuilt (and then stored in all eight places again!) Basically, unless you know exactly what you're doing (and you have a lot of spare time to hunt down all of the cookies), you can forget about ever deleting an evercookie.
It's horrible, really, but I feel I must bring this project under the scorching eye of public scrutiny. This is, after all, the work of a security expert -- rather than thinking of this as an evil piece of code that will be bent to the evil, omnipresent will of Google, think of it as the inoculation that strengthens us for what will surely follow. As it stands, evercookie could be deployed on any server.
Evercookie is open source, and I encourage anyone that values their privacy to see exactly how and where it stores its cookies. For now it's only in eight locations, but Samy already has plans for two more: Silverlight Isolated Storage and a Java method based on your NIC's details.
The worst thing is, such a cookie implementation might already be in the wild. Samy might not be the first person or corporation to try such a crazy, but fundamentally brilliant, idea!

Nintendo 3DS To Land In The US In March. All You Need To Know.
Nintendo revealed at its 3DS press conference in Tokyo today that its glasses-free 3D portable game system will hit stores in Japan on February 26 (price: $300, including a 2GB SD card), followed by the US and Europe one month later (price yet unknown). But that wasn't all, as big N also showed the final design of the hardware, listed up quite a few cool game titles and made some other interesting announcements. And if what Nintendo revealed at the press conference is any indication, the 3DS looks like another home run for the company. Chrome Web Store preview adds Google Checkout payments, recommendations

Google Checkout payments are now supported, and developers can sign up for a merchant account on their dashboard page. Page previews have now been added -- so you can see how your app will look in the Store prior to publishing. Pages can be customized with header images and Google is also allowing devs to upload their own promotional banners (they'll be displayed when your app is feature in the store).
One downside for developers hoping to sell their apps in the Web Store is that Google Checkout might be the only payment option. Checkout still isn't available in that many countries, so international devs looking to deliver localized Web apps will have to wait for Google to make good on their expansion promises.
ed note: it's become an expected part of app stores, but as you can see in the screenshot the Chrome Web Store will offer recommendations based on what other users install.
